Wow, Tim Redding was apparently not lying when he said that his back feeling better meant he was fine. His arm seems just ducky, going 7IP, 1H, 2BB, 2K against the Phils. Let's see if the bullpen can finish it.
Update, 9:25PM - Wow, and when the bats don't show up, the pitching holds out. The Nationals are 3-0, beating the Phils 1-0. Tim Redding out dueled Cole Hamels, which is ridiculous, and Luis Ayala and Jon Rauch both pitched scoreless innings to put the Phillies to bed. Good start so far. It's really encouraging to see the pitching look strong. It'd be nice to see Redding actually achieve the level of talent the Astros saw a little peep of a few years ago. Tomorrow we'll get to see Jay Bergmann's first start of the year against Jamie Moyer.
162-0, here we come.

Lopez in left field is worth a try. Unlike my mailbox in the outfield idea, Lopez is fairly quick and the Nats need to get him some at bats to build his trade value.
Also, thank god we signed Paul Lo Duca, because he's so much better than Schneider. 1 for 11, 1 R, 1 RBI? Be still my beating heart.
Could the Caps race to make the playoffs be any tighter? The Caps almost certainly need to win their final two.
If Carolina wins its final game they clinch the Southeast division title via better tiebreakers.
For the 8th seed, the Caps need the Flyers to lose at least one or potentially the Bruins/Senators to lose at least one. I'm not sure how the Caps tiebreakers are against the Flyers, Bruins, and Senators.
Look, Paul Lo Duca is a fucking machine.
God dammit.
And the Caps, god how I love them, but I can't see them doing it. It just seems like a hell of a stretch for everything to fall into line. But it's not like this is a one time only team that will never be assembled again. I think they'll definitely make the playoffs next year, especially if they can resign Huet and (I think) Semin.
Get your praying shoes on, I just read that the Flyers have to play the Devils and the Pens between here and the playoffs. Two games they could easily lose, and we're only a point behind them.
